I can report that the scallops were next level last night, nothing like cheese sauce and good bread! Another lap on the bike this morning, this time out of town, warm and sunny, but quite a bit of puffing on those hills. I spoke to two people in Melbourne which made me thankful to be in little old Hawera! There has been cheap beef filet in the supermarket, so I snaffled a few for the freezer but kept some out to eat. Lunch was a serious overindulgence in the sourdough with mayo and roast chicken so I opted for a glass of this fresh juice and a quick stir fry for dinner. Sunday night is online quiz with some friends, where I get to learn how little I really know, no different tonight. Tonight I tested pitting the banana through the juice, it spat the lot into the waste receptacle with a dribble of juice going through, experiment over, use the stick blender.
Morning Juice
12 carrots
4 oranges
1 lemon
A large thumb sized piece of ginger
4 pieces of fresh turmeric
2 bananas
Top and tail the carrots, peel the citrus and chop the banana, ginger and turmeric up a bit. Feed about ½ the carrots through the juicer then and add the banana to the juice and give it a blast with a stick mixer. It’s a bit of a fag but better than putting the banana through the juicer. If you are not fond of banana then leave it out. Fire the rest of the ingredients through the juicer, give it a stir and it is ready to drink. It keeps well in the fridge for a few days, just give it a shale up before you pour as it will separate.
Beef and Greens
200g filet steak
100g sprouting broccoli
1 clove garlic
1 small piece ginger
1 chilli
1 t sesame oil
1 t ketcap manis
1 t soy sauce
Finely slice the garlic, chilli, ginger and beef, cut the stalks off the broccoli retaining the leaves. Add the sesame oil to a hot wok, once smoking add the beef, cook for a minute on each side and remove from the wok to a bowl and drizzle the soy sauce and ketcap manis over it. Add the broccoli to the wok once beginning to wilt add a splash of water and the garlic, chilli and ginger, cook for a further minute, add the beef and sauce, and mix in the sweet chilli sauce, serve.
